supported playgroups
Supported playgroups are a great way for parents to connect with their community and learn about their child's development.
Families NSW supported playgroups are informal sessions for parents to meet and share their experiences of parenting and for children to socialise, play and learn in a structured and positive environment.
Parents bring their child to a playgroup, interact with other parents and are supported to strengthen their parenting skills.
Supported playgroups are run by a trained early childhood coordinator, who also assists the group by offering practical parenting support and advice.
Families NSW supported playgroups provide:
- Play and learning experiences to stimulate children’s intellectual growth and support the development of early literacy and numeracy skills
- Play-based interactions, communication skills and behaviour management techniques
- Information for parents about relevant topics including child development, child safety, health and hygiene
- Links and/or referrals for families with other health and community services
- Help to parents to use early literacy support strategies with their children
There are more than 200 supported playgroups across NSW - To find your local supported playgroup, contact your regional Families NSW office. You can find their number on the your area pages of this site.
